LINWOOD PROTESTS

The Linwood club is also unhappy about being required to play a club match against Marist on Anzac Day. The senior team coach, Mr K. A. W. Jane, said last evening that he would try to have it changed. “If we had been given a fortnight’s notice, it may have been reasonable, but some players have made business arrangements for that day.” Mr Jane said a complaint had been officially lodged with the Canterbury Rugby Union’s competitions committee.

The chairman of this subcommittee is Mr J. Storey, who is also president of Linwood. Mr Storey is in Wellington attending the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. “Apparently, Old Bbys turned the game down flat,” said Mr Jane.

When it was pointed out that Linwood and Marist club players would not be able to play for Canterbury that day, Mr Jane said: “It's a horse of another colour when the province wants first call for the big matches later in the season.”
