Roman Palace In Syria
(N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DAMASCUS, April 16. Remains of a Roman palace with mosaic floors have been discovered at Shahba, in Southern Syria. Mr Abdel-Kader Ai-Rimawi, Inspector-General of the Antiquities Department, said that the palace and a courtyard surrounded by halls with marble pillars and several rooms with floors decorated with superb coloured mosaic scenes depicting mythological subjects. Mr Rimawi said that the palace would become the nucleus of a museum representing the successive civilisations in the area.
