Regent St Show
New Regent Street boasted! even more of a Spanish atmosphere than usual yesterday when a radio show to promote the area was broadcast from a mobile studio between noon and 2 p.m. The street was closed to traffic for the occasion. Hundreds crowded the street to watch the fun, and many took part in the contests, which included quizzes, painting pictures with a Spanish theme, serenading a “senorita” who gazed down from a shop balcony, and a Spanish dress contest. The show was compered by N. D. Allen, complete with luxuriant if somewhat insecure moustache, and he and his assistants were all in Spanish costume. One shop in the street attracted a crowd by holding a fashion parade in its window, a loudspeaker under the shop veranda relaying the descriptions of the clothes to the audience.
