U.K. Road Toll Down
tN.ZP.A.Keuter—Copyright) LONDON, April 17. Britain’s new laws on tyres and drinking and driving were credited today with reducing the Easter holiday road toll by 25 per cent, compared with last year. The number of road deaths for the five days from last Thursday was 72. Last year’s figure was 96. The total number of road accidents fell by more than 700 to 2880, and the number of people seriously injured dropped by 250 to 1038. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents credits the Government’s new tyre-safety law and breathalyser tests for the decreases.
