ADELAIDE, April 16.
The South Australian Premier, Mr Donald Dunstan, resigned late today after his Labour Government had been beaten on the floor of the House of Assembly.
The Labour Government was defeated when the Opposition Liberal Country League leader, Mr Steele Hall, moved that the House adjourn. The motion was carried 20 votes to 19, the Speaker, Mr T. C. Stott, having the casting vote. Immediately the House adjourned Mr Dunstan called on the Governor, Sir Edric Bastyan, and tendered his resignation. Mr Hall is calling on the Governor later this evening and will immediately set about forming a new Liberal Country League (L.C.L.) Government. The Labour Party and L.C.L. both won 19 seats at the State elections held on March 2 this year. One seat went to Mr Stott, an independent.
Mr Stott was elected Speaker today and later sided with the L.C.L. in the adjournment vote. The Labour Government won 54 per cent of votes polled in the elections but under the present electoral boundaries gained no more seats than the L.C.L.
