Southbridge Bus
Sir, —On three occasions in the last fortnight the 5 p.m. Christchurch - to - Southbridge bus has been late leaving Christchurch. On April 4 it did not leave until 5.15. The
company said it did not have a bus available for this regular service, it appears that the company is more interested in catering for tours and specials than for their regular customers on scheduled services. Several people have to cycle a few miles after reaching their destinations, and it is very late before they get home. The 7 a.m. South-bridge-Christchurch service is grossly overcrowded: many people stand for long distances.—Yours, etc.. DISGRUNTLED PASSENGER. April 10, 1968.
(Mr R. Forward, traffic manager of Days Motors, Ltd, replies: “We regret the late departure of the 5 p.m. service bus on April 4. Road works on Springs Road and Riccarton Road made it difficult to reschedule buses. Almost all passenger service operators depend on contract and tour revenue to subsidise timetable services. Without this financial assistance most timetable services would be heavily curtailed. We are aware of the passenger loading situation on the 7 a.m. Southbridge-Christ-church service and will continue to keep this under observation.”]
