650 Claims Taken
Details of 650 claims for storm damage have been taken by the Christchurdi City Council on behalf of the Earthquake and War Damage Commission. The Town Clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) and other senior council staff were kept busy all day yesterday taking names, addresses and descriptions of damage for assessment by the commission. Normally, they would not have been at work yesterday.
Mr Hayes has already given details of 400 claims to Mr C. S. P. Nicholls, managing director of Dominion Adjustors, Ltd, representatives of the commission in Christchurch. Assessors will review the claims and act upon those which qualify. The first $2O of a claim has to be paid by the householder, and the fund will not pay out on damage to .livestock, crops, land, paths, bridges, retaining walls or fences.
