PLAYERS’ EXPENSES

League To Decide (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The New Zealand Rugby league selectors were quite prepared to choose a team from the players who have made themselves available without any conditions being attached, said the N.Z.R.L. chairman. Dr L. J. Cooney, yesterday. He was commenting on the statement made by the former international centre, R. W. Bailey, who said he would be available for the coming world championship series only if higher expenses were paid to the players. Bailey said that the out-of-pocket expenses paid by the league to past Kiwi sides on tour were far too small. It had cost the player money on every tour.

“Everybody should get more,” said Bailey. Dr Cooney said that the N.Z.R.L. had not decided on the expenses for the world championship yet. “The rates that are decided will apply to all players. There will be no exceptions,” I he added.
