SEWER FOR LEESTON

Approval By Ratepayers Leeston ratepayers, at a meeting last week, unanimously approved a proposal for the installation of a sewer age scheme in the township. A report and plans, prepared by Mr A. J. van Rooyen, assistant engineer to the Ellesmere County Council, were considered by the council at a recent meeting, when it adopted a recommendation from its finance committee that the charge to ratepayers in the county town should be $32 a year, and that any additional costs for annual charges should be met through the county fund. The ratepayers’ meeting was presided over by Cr G. A. H Atkinson, representative of the county town on the County Council. The scheme is estimated to cost $164,000, with annual charges amounting to $13,530. i of which it is expected $4OOO will be provided from the county fund.
