Fifth Win At Ellerslie
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Woodville trainer, E. Ropiha. and his stable rider, H. N. Rauhihi. continued their dominance of the Auckland Easter meeting at Ellerslie yesterday. Ropiha saddled up three candidates —Royal Theme in the main race, the H. O. Nolan .Handicap, Rajah Sahib in the Victoria Handicap, and Chapel Belle in the open sprint, the Bowen Handicap—and Rauhihi rode each of them home as winners. The combination had gained firsts with Royal Theme and Rajah Sahib and two seconds with other runners on the opening day of the meeting. Royal Theme, although unproven at a mile and a half, was favourite for the H. O. Nolan Handicap. He gave his supporters no cause for worry. A slow pace set by Earl Marshal enabled him to coast to the half-mile. He then sprinted up to take a clear lead turning for home. In the straight none looked like troubling him and he won by two lengths. ■ngaged.—The leading Sydney jockey. D. Lake, on Monday announced his engagement to a New Zealand girl, Miss Deanne Shand, aged 21, a promotion hostess working In Sydney.
