PROBLEMS IN GIVING HELP

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 15. The Red Cross Society would face “immense difficulties” in dealing with requests for help by Wahine survivors and relatives of victims from its special shipwreck and other disaster fund, the secretary, Commander M. C. Ashdown, said today.

The f und stands at $lO,OOO $5OOO from the Shipwreck Relief Society and $5OOO from Golden Kiwi profits. Commander Ashdown said he expected a flood of private gifts this week. Administering the Kaitawa

fund was relatively simple, he said, but in the case of the Wahine there were people involved of differing nationalities and vastly different economic circumstances. So far about 10 cases of hardship have been dealt with by the society in the Wellington area (this does not include Social Security claims that have been made).
