Lifeboat Tow
As a precautionary measure the Sumner lifeboat was called out yesterday afternoon to bring in two Navy service rowing boats manned by cadets from the training ship Cornwell in the estuary. The lifeboat also towed in a third boat which had been sent to assist the other two. The commander of the Cornwell, Lieutenant Commander M. W. Murnane, said the lifeboat had been called out as a precaution and that the boats were in no real difficulty. They were under the control of experienced coxwains. The lifeboat had responded to the call in four minutes. The captain of the Sumner lifeboat, Mr H. J. Kerr, said the call was received about 3.30 p.m. The boats were picked up in a bay near the causeway and were towed to the Cornwell.
