Table Tennis PACIFIC TITLES
N.Z. Players Beaten (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. The New Zealand table tennis player, M. Borlase, of Wellington, was unlucky in the first round draw when the individual events of the South-East Asia Pacific area championships began on Saturday. Borlase was drawn to meet L. Pascoe, who won the Austra lian title in 1965 at the age of 15. Pascoe was too good for Borlase, and won, 21-7. 21-13, 21-12. A. Tomlinson, of Auckland, had an easy win over another Australian, D. Lindsay, and had a bye in the second round when his Philippines opponent did not arrive at the tournament. But Tomlinson does not appear likely to get much further because he has to play the winner between the Japanese national champion, S. Ito, and the Thailand star. C. Wuvanich, in the quarter-finals. In the women's doubles, Mrs C. Tadcma (Hamilton) and Miss D. Wade (Tauranga) were beaten in straight games by the South Koreans, Choi Jung Suk and Choi Hwan Hwan, in the second round after having a bye in the first round.
