Record Missed By 1sec.
(N.Z. Press Association) HOKITIKA. Driving Bel Air 111 on Lake Kaniere yesterday, P. Knight, of New Brighton, failed by less than one second to beat the world record held by B. Widget (United States) of 111.676 m.p.h. for 150 cu. in hydroplanes. Knight reached a speed of 110.196 m.p.h. in a flying kilo metre event, the fastest recorded by a speedboat on Lake Kaniere. His own Australasian record of 109.65 m.p.h. was broken, but his speed did not allow a sufficient margin for a new Australasian record.
