Judo Title Retained In 27-Second Victory
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. O. Boele (Auckland) speedily retained his heavy-weight title against A. Strampel (Napier) in the national judo championships at Auckland on Saturday. Within 25 seconds Boele, countering an attempt to throw him, used a beautifully-applied arm lock to obtain a full point and victory. A fine open weight bout between D. Delay (Auckland) and E. Best (Canterbury) required a three-minute extension, then another of two minutes before Delay gained a narrow decision. Mrs E. Bryson, a 27-year-old black belt holder from the Avon head club, Christchurch, became the first women s national champion after a strenuous bout with Miss V. Weir (Lower Hutt).
