Man Beaten, Car Stolen
(N Z Press Association) WHANGAREI, April 14. A man was beaten up, 537 stolen from his wallet and his car taken by three men near Kawakawa early this morning. The car was found in a ditch several miles south of Whangarei about two hours later. It was badly damaged. Police have been searching Whangarei and the surrounding district all day for the three men, but by late this evening had not been successful. Road blocks were set up at Dargaville and Waipu. The condition of the car’s owner, Mr Bill Ensor, of Titirangi, was not available tonight, nor was it known how he obtained help.
