The Lands and Survey Department would make no public investigation into the potential development of Lake Sumner, the chief surveyor (Mr C. M. Rainsford) said this week. He was commenting on a report in “The Press” on Wednesday that the department had sent out circulars to 18 sports organisations asking for their views on the development of the area. Mr Rainsford said the circular had been issued by Mr S. M. Williams, a senior surveyor who was making a detailed study of the area for a thesis to obtain a diploma in town planning. Mr Rainsford said that Mr Williams's investigations were of an entirely private nature and had no official connection with the department
