Market In Balance At End Of Trading

The market on New Zealand stock exchanges was in balance when trading closed for the Easter holiday on Thursday. As expected, trading was light Price movements were narrow, although there were some good gains in the overseas list

Broken HUI Proprietary, which one Australian broking house has said will rise to $4O at the end of next year and $lOO possibly within three years, rose 45c to 1900 c in Christchurch on Wednesday’s closing Auckland prices. The share touched 1920 c in Wellington before closing also at 1900 c. Hamersley gained 35c to 950 c and Myer 15c to 485 c. Fletcher gained another 2c to 180 c in Auckland while N.Z. Steel edged up 2c to 72c. Tekau gained 7c to 125 c; its par value is 200 c. Alex Harvey again was easier, slipping 4c to 308 c. N.Z. Forest Products lost 2c to 280 c and Kaiapoi 1c to 28c. Insurances were easier. N.Z. Insurance declined 3c to 288 c while South British lost 1c to 372 c.
