Hard-Court Tennis Seeds Delayed By Storm

Canterbury’s seeded players in the New Zealand hard-court tennis championships, which began at Te Koutu Park yesterday, failed to appear for their opening matches. One of them, J. W. Mitchell, the third seed in the men’s singles, is having a race against time to attend the tournament.

The other, Miss J. Bishop, the No. 7 seed in the women’s singles, has been forced to withdraw from the championships.

Both had their travelling arrangements upset by the storm which swept Wellington and Canterbury on Thursday. Mitchell decided to make other arrangements to get to the championships, but has been delayed. His first-round [match against R. A. Woods, of , Waikato, has been held open ! until this morning.
