G. R. Shirley Suspended
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. G. R. Shirley, the driver of Newella in the Nightcaps Handicap at the Wairio Trotting Clubs meeting on Saturday. had his driving licence suspended up to and including Monday, April 15, for careless driving causing interference. Newella, which began smartly from an outside draw was moving across to the rails to dispute the lead, when she checked Bright Warrior, which
in turn checked Tasmanian Lady. Bright Warrior almost fell as a result of the incident. Cantor, Blonde Sister and Dim View also suffered checks.
Little Jack, which finished third in the Duncan Handicap, was subsequently disqualified for galloping along the back both times of the two-mile journey. Pambill, which finished fourth, was promoted to third.
