HALWES BEATEN
fN.Z Pres» Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. The winning streak of tha champion pacer, Halwes, came to an end when he was beaten into third place in the Tornado Stakes at Harold Park on Friday night.
Halwes found hla 36-yard handicap beyond him, and wai beaten by 12 yards. The race went to Cardinal Bruce, an Inter-Dominion finalist at Auckland. He beat Paddy’s Night, with Halwes four yards away third. Great Adlos, driven by R. P. Morton, was forced to race wide practically all the way and had nothing in reserve inside the last furlong to be well beaten into fifth place. However, it was a promising run for the Lord Mayor's Cup, and if Great Adlos is favourably handicapped he should show up in that event. Rhyl, owned by Mr N. Simpson, was having his first Australian start. He broke up badly at the barrier and trailed the field all the way.
The time for the mile was 2:5 1-5.
