Taradale To Join Napier
(N.Z. Frees Association)
NAPIER, March 18.
The decision at a taradale poll on Saturday to amalgamate with Napier as from April 1, 1968, means that Napier will become the tenth largest city in New Zealand with a population of about 37,050. On Saturday 71 per cent of the Taradale residents who voted were in favour of the borough merging with Napier. The poll, which was demanded by a petition signed by 600 people, attracted 2029 of the 3044 eligible voters, a 66.6 per cent turnout.
