Rough Play By France
rpHE French Rugby team x is blamed by South African journalists for the rough play that occurred when France toured South Africa last year. In “Ruffled Roosters,” his book on the Tricolours' tour in South Africa, A. C. Parker, a leading South African writer who toured New Zealand as a correspondent with the 1965 Springboks, blames the French for the rough playAnother South African writer, Toy Mostert, writing
in Afrikaans, has entitled his book, “Rugby en Veldslag” “Rugby and Battles.” In deploring the readiness of the French to indulge in rough play, Parker says: “Let’s not use a euphemism. Many Punch-Ups “Some of the French forwards made a point of persistently stirring up trouble. There were frequent punchups. “I am satisfied that these were invariably instigated by the Tricolors.”
