FLOODLIGHT SOCCER Picked To Play Former Club
The former New Zealand and Auckland soccer representative, K. Sudlow, will play his first major match in Canterbury against his former club, Ponsonby.
Sudlow, who is serving in the R.N.Z.A.F. and recently moved to Wigram, has been named in the Invitation XI to meet the Northern League champion, Ponsonby, under lights at English Park on March 23.
A world tourist in 1963 and 15 times selected for New Zealand, Sudlow is now a member of Shamrock. He was
I with Ponsonby in 1965 when the Auckland club won promotion to the premier division, the club going on to be runner-up in the Northern League in 1966 and champion last season. Four-Club Selection
The Invitation XI, comprising players from Christchurch City, Rangers, Shamrock and Technical, was announced yesterday by Mr F. .1. H. Haydon, chairman of I the Christchurch United Club’s committee, which is sponsoring the match. It is: I 0. Nuttridge (City); G. Davis (Technical),- W. Mc'Kenna (City); K. France '(Technical), G. Evans (City, captain), K. Sudlow (Shamrock); W. Robinson (Ranjgers), B. Wilkinson (Technical), P. Kay (Technical), T. [ Haydon (Rangers), F. Madrussen (City). Reserves: W. Weir (Technical), A. Hawthorn (Technical), M. Ellis (Shamrock). /11 but Robinson, Ellis and Sudlow are present or former Canterbury senior representatives, while both Robinson and Ellis have played for Canterbury in the under-18 Junior National Cup. Robinson’s selection is an experiment on the part of the selectors. The 18-year-old former New Brighton player is normally an inside-forward, but is being given the opportunity to stake a claim for the position held last season by C. F. Martin, now in Australia.
