Industrial Tour

Seven members of the Victorian Chamber of Manufacturers will spend two days in Christchurch at the end of a 20-day study tour of New Zealand industries. The party will visit the factories of Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Ltd, and Andersons, Ltd, on Friday. It has already made an extensive tour of New Zealand studying industrial developments and business potential. R.A.F. Hercules A Hercules aircraft of the Royal Air Force, landed at Christchurch Airport yesterday morning. It had come from Changi. Singapore, on a training flight. Two hours later it left for Laverton, in Australia. From there it will return to Changi. Most of the Hercules aircraft seen at Christchurch belong either to the United States Navy or the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The Royal Air Force has had Hercules aircraft for about six months. Roading Needs The view that roading should be undertaken while competitive contracting prices were being offered was expressed at a meeting of the council of the Automobile Association (South Canterbury) this week. The meeting decided that because of the amount of plant and machinery lying idle in New Zealand it should tell the New Zealand Automobile Association of its views, in the hope that a move might be made nationally to increase road works. Mr E. C. Hall said it was no use waiting until there was a “boom” time. “This has got to be done now,” he said. —(F.0.0.R.)
