P. Mcllroy Wins C.B.H.S. Title

Victories in the 880 yards, one mile, and three-mile events enabled P. Mcllroy to win the open championship at the Christchurch Boys’ High School athletic sports yesterday.

Mcllroy, the distance champion, won the over-all title by only one point from the sprint champion, M. E. Bedggood, with another point back to G. J. May, the field events winner.

P. G. Buxton won the intermediate championship, and G. Mason the junior title. May broke two intermediate field events, improving his own shot put mark to 58ft s*in and extending I. Henderson’s 1965 javelin standard from 138 ft 7iin to 144 ft 7in. The third record went to R. Rendel whose open javelin throw of 161 ft 7in improved D. Hulme’s 1962 record by lift sJin.
