TECHNICAL BOARD
Sectional Seats Discussed
The Christchurch Technical Institute’s board of governors on Monday evening reaffirmed that broad representation as provided by its constitution is preferable to narrow sectional representation. It also reaffirmed that particular vocations should be co-opted to help only for specific tasks and for specific periods.
The Canterbury regional committee of the New Zealand Institute of Science Technicians had again sought representation on the board through a co-opted member. The chairman (Mr R. Jones) said he knew of nothing to warrant representation of these technicians at present, apart from their obvious interest.
The principal (Mr D. W. Lyall) said that classes in this field were small so far but growing. If science, as such, was to be represented, consideration would also have to be given to the New Zealand Association of Scientists and other bodies. Mr C. Russell said that the board had earlier agreed to use its powers of co-option only for specific projects and for specific periods. Most vocations were already affiliated to groups represented on the board.
