Back To Ring
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The former Empire lightweight boxing champion, M. Santos, who, because of eye trouble, retired last April —a month after winning the title from B. Grant, of Jamaica—may make a come-back. Yesterday, in Auckland, he was examined by an eye specialist. “Santos will be going to another doctor today for asecond opinion,” his trainer, Mr R. Grimmer, said.
“The two doctors will consult later before any decision is made,” he said. If Santos were passed by the doctors, he said, Santos would apply for a boxing licence, but his future plans would depend on certain factors
“The money would have to be right—we would not be prepared to come back for peanuts. We wouldn’t go back to $200.” If Santos returned it would be with the Wellington Boxing Association, said Mr Grimmer.
