Horse v. Man

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. New Zealand athletes will be able to compete against racehorses and professional cyclists in charity events in the future. This is made clear in a ruling received from the International Amateur Athletic Federation. Moves for the ruling were initiated by the Canterbury centre which last season had proposed to match its champion sprinter, D. W. MacKenzie, against a racehorse in a charity event. However, the N.Z.A.A.A. management committee ruled at the time that should MacKenzie compete against the racehorse he would be endangering his amateur status.
