SCIENCE BLOCK

Tenders To Be Called (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. The Government has approved the calling of tenders for a new science block at the Christchurch Technical Institute. This information was given today to the member for Christchurch Central, Mr R. M. Macfarlane, by the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella). The new block, which will provide eight laboratories, five classrooms, a workshop and accommodation for administrators, will cover approximately 25,000 sq. ft. “This will be the first extension to be built since the Christchurch Technical College became a polytechnic,” Mr Kinsella said. “It is the first stage in the expansion of the institute which, when all stages are complete, will greatly facilitate the training of technicians at Christchurch. The Government has already authorised the planning of a further 12,000 sq. ft of teaching area and workshops for the institute. It is expected that construction of the first stage will be completed in two years.
