Apprentice Fined

The Riccarton apprentice, R. K. Moir, was fined $2O by the judicial committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club yesterday for his handling of Pango in the Craven Plate, second leg of the T.A.B. double Moir was found guilty of incompetent riding.- After being on the inside and in front for the first two furlongs he restrained the mare until she was near the rear and in a position where it would have required an exceptional effort for her to have reached a dividend-bearing place. During the inquiry Moir became ill in the judicial room. After he had been examined by the club’s doctor he was not allowed to ride in the last race, the Post Handicap. Moir, who was to have ridden Pretentious in the Post Handicap, was replaced by J. T. Anderson. During the running of the Craven Plate New Mint bled and was pulled up. A veterindary surgeon reported that the horse had bled severely from both nostrils.
