Barbara Macßae, of New Zealand, beat the Queensland prodigy, Joanne Barnes, in the 110 yd girls’ breaststroke in the Australian junior swimming championships at Hobart on Sunday night. ■ Both were credited with a time of Imin 21.9 sec in the closest finish of the night. Barry Knowles and M. F. Toomey were the only other members of the New Zealand team to win medals. Knowles was third in the 220 yd backstroke, with a time of 2min 23sec, and Toomey was third in the 110 yd butterfly final, in Imin 3.9 sec.

Miss K. Conway (New Zealand) won the junior one metre springboard diving championship with a points score of 472.35, well ahead of the next place-getter, S. Rodgers (New South Wales) who had 428.10 points.
