Ashley-Kowai Amalgamation
Sir, —“Exitus Acta Probat” may hope to impress with the Latin nom-de-plume, but the questions are really quite easily answered. (1) Presumably many people do not read the council’s reports in the newspapers. (2) A group of people may organise a petition if they wish, but the “illjudged initiative” in this case would be in organising it on this particular issue. To any clear-thinking person amalgamation is without doubt in the best interests of both counties. (3) It is not
worth the cost when this question has been thought out for over two years by two bodies of well-informed men conscientiously working in the interests of all concerned. (4) The National Roads Board has made a promise; it must therefore honour it. (5) Most people organising petitions are proud of their cause and are not afraid to come out into the open and speak freely and honestly on any question asked of them.— Yours, etc., HONESTY PAYS. February 3, 1968.
