Papuan and New Guinean advisers to the United Nations were described as “sluggish” and “lacking in initiative” by the president of the United Nations Trusteeship Council, Miss Angie Brookes. Papuans and New Guineans should be allowed to play a greater role in the business of Government Miss Brooks said. “I don’t think Papua-New Guinea’s past advisers have taken enough initiative at the United Nations. The United Nations adviser should be chosen by the peoplethrough the House of Assembly—and not hand-picked by the administering authority,” I she said.
