Senator To Mister
(N.Z. Preu Aun.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Feb. 2. The Australian Prime Minister, Senator Gorton, has become plain Mr John Grey Gorton and will suffer a temporary fall in income. He yesterday handed his resignation as a Victorian senator to the president of the Senate, Sir Alister McMullin, so that he becomes eligible to stand for the House of Representatives seat of Higgins, in Victoria. This means that until he Is elected to the House of Representatives, he will lose his Senate salary and allowances of $175 a week. However, he will continue to draw his Prime Ministerial salary at the rate of $17,000 a year plus $4OOO for expenses of office.
