Riccarton Flower Show
It was unfortunate that the standard in the fruit and vegetable section was not as high as it was in other years, said the president of the Riccarton Horticultural Society (Mr M. J. Staunton) at the society's summer show on Saturday.
Gladioli and dahlias were of quite a good standard.and comparable with those of other shows, but entries in the eut Rower section were lower because of the rain which did not improve the quality of the entries, said Mr Staunton. The decorative section was one of the heaviest, and was of a high standard. Pot plants were excellent . ■. There were fewer entries in the cooking section, and the show was a little . early for preserves. Usually, the show was held later in February, he said. Entries were higher than in previous yean in the children’* decorative section and Mn L. Hunt, judge of the section, said that the entries were very good. Of the 26 shows hpld by the society, Saturday’s was one of
only three held on a wet day. One judge failed to arrive and Mr L. C. Hurndell judged an extra section. Results were:—
