YACHTING Festival Cup Won By Canty Yacht

Radiant (A. W. Shields and W. A. Beere, Canterbury) won the Festival Cup for R clan racing a* th* Dunedin Festival Regatta aver the week-end. Sailed over three racoa in varying conditions. Radiant had placings of first, second and third to finish with the best aggregate.

The Festival Cup is allocated to a different class each year and this year four R class yachts from Christchurch travelled down to compete against local Dunedin boats. Winner of the aggregate handicap section was the Otago yacht Conflict (A. and D. Loughrey), while in the open class Canterbury club Javelins dominated the results with Early Bird (T. Beaumont and B. Hart) winning the over-all handicap section. Conditions, although varied, gave excellent racing, with a very light north-easterly for the first race, a light to moderate south-westerly for the second race on Saturday afternoon, and a strong south-wester of some 30.35 knots for the last race yesterday afternoon. Winning margins in the R class races were always slim with only five seconds between Naiad and Radiant in the second race and 30 seconds in the last race. In the Javelins, Early Bird and Sundowner (C. and I. Smith, Canterbury) dominated all the results.

Racing at local dubs was abandoned on Saturday because of the weather and only the P class raced at the Canterbury club yesterday. At Christchurch yesterday afternoon both class races were sailed in good conditions. Results were:— SATURDAY
