(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright > HOBART.

The New Zealand P.G.A. winner, R. Shaw, struck out against driving winds and rain on Saturday to take the lead in the first round of the $3OOO Tasmanian Open golf championship at the Royal Hobart Golf Course. Shaw, on 72, was the only player to equal par. He had a lead of one stroke over the New Zealander, B. Boys, who was equal with the New South Welshmen, F. Phillips and D. Fearns.

The weather told on the performance of star New Zealander, W. Godfrey. After a par-shattering show at the Wagga Open in New South Wales last week, Godfrey was down to equal fifth place on Saturday with 74.
