Not Great Danger

There is at present a ban on the importation of meat into the United Kingdom from countries where foot-and-mouth disease is endemic. South American countries, like the Argentine, which are major exporters of meat to Britain, are among those affected. The question has been raised as to whether there should not also be a ban on the importation of wool into Britain from such countries, but the agricultural attache at the United Kingdom High Commissioner’s Office in Wellington, Mr J. McGrath said that wool was not regarded as a hazard to the same extent He said that there was usually a considerable time lag between the time when the wool was clipped from the animal and it was finally removed from the bale for some purpose. In the interim it was unlikely that any fragments would escape and by the time that it was removed from the bale and could come into contact with any animal there would be no danger.
