Styx Picked At Ellerslie

The Te Rapa gelding, Styx, one of the most promising four-year-old stayers in the north, looks a fine winning prospect in the Anniversary Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Ellerslie today. Styx won handsomely over a mile at Pukekohe last weekend. His form at the end of last year stamped him as a stayer well above average. The main opposition to Styx today may come from City Court, Castle Dee, Arbroath and Nipawin. At Pukekohe last week, Styx made a determined finish to edge out Gene in the Champion Mile carrying 8-B—slb less than this weight today. His staying form last year included a grand win over Fairfieet, Tatua and other good gallopers in the Foxbridge Plate, a mile and a quarter. The weather has been fine and the track will be fast.
