The New Zealand Maori Council is to ask its district councils for their opinions on whether Maoris should have the choice of enrolment on Maori or European electoral rolls. This followed a discussion tonight at a council meeting on the Electoral Amendment Act passed by Parliament last year. The Act gave Maoris the right to stand for European seats and vice versa, but did not allow similar free choice of enrolment.
