Salvation Army Appointment

Commissioner C. Davidson, Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will leave for London in March to take up his new post as travelling commissioner. In the “War Cry,” the Salvation Army’s chief secretary (Colonel A. E. Albiston) says that Commissioner Davidson’s past services in Malaya, Japan, the United States and Great Britain had fitted him in a special way for his new appointment. Commissioner Davidson will be succeeded by Lieu-tenant-Commissioner F. A. Evans, a member of the central committee of the World Council of Churches, who visited New Zealand last year with the International Staff Band. He has had experience in France, Great Britain. Italy and the Congo, and is due to arrive in New Zealand on March 16. A former New Zealander, Lieutenant-Commissioner A. B. Cook, Commander of the Salvation Army Eastern Territory in Australia, has announced that he will retire in March. He is also president of the Australian Council of Churches.

Basketball Move.—The national indoor basketball captain, B. Bowden, will move to Auckland from Wellington next week. Bowden said yesterday that the length of his stay was indefinite, but he would definitely play in Auckland next season.
