Train Thief Arrested

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) MONTREAL, Jan. 26. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have arrested the British train robber, Charles Wilson, at his home in Rigaud, Quebec, on a charge of illegally entering Canada, and have handed him over to the immigration authorities. A police spokesman said the arrest was made after an investigation carried out at the request of Scotland Yard and Interpol. Wilson is being detained in Montreal pending a hearing. When he escaped, Wilson was serving a 30-year gaol term for his part in the sensational 1963 hold-up of a British mail train in which £2)m was stolen. More than £2m is still missing from the robbery, the greatest coup of its kind in criminal history. After Wilson’s escape, police throughout the world were asked to be on the alert for him.

Only three weeks ago British police were investigating a report that he had been spotted in Tangiers.
