Series Of Burglaries

Burglaries were committed or attempted in several premises in High Street, Cashel Street and Hereford Street on Thursday night. A tape recorder valued at $l3O was taken from the Canterbury Exhibition. Centre, in the White Hart Arcade, High Street.

June Mayes, Ltd, women’s clothing manufacturers, 9IA Cashel Street, Nick’s Restaurant, 103 Cashel Street, and Papprill, Frampton and Hadfield, solicitors, 84 Hereford Street, were broken into but nothing was reported missing. At 3.25 a.m. an attempt was made to break into the Catholic Women’s League rooms, at 245 Cashel Street, but the sound of breaking glass aroused nearby people and the intruder made off. An attempt was also made to break into Woolston Motors, Ltd, 608 Ferry Road. Considerable damage was done but nothing was reported missing.

The sum of $15.30 was taken froln Hewitt and Heyward, Ltd, chemists, 320 Selwyn Street.
