Nausori Beaten In Trial

“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Arnie, Bright Chief and Fairfleet ran excellent trials at Trentham yesterday for the Wellington Racing Club Handicap tomorrow. Two other middle-distance horses, the three-year-olds Ben Lomond and Aquarelle, were equally impressive. A dozen Adams Mile runners were seen and most went well, although Nausori was soundly beaten as he usually is in training. Nausori (Andrews) went with Miss Lynette (Hughes) in the early stages of the trial. Nausori broke away three lengths in front at the mile and Andrews tried to restrain him to wait for the filly. Hughes waved him on. confidently warning Andrews, “I’ll catch up.” That was the understatement of the morning. Miss Lynette

was up with Nausori before they reached the top of the back straight. She took over near th? half mile and cruised away to win the gallop by 10 lengths.

Her time for the last four was 51 2-ssec and for the last three 38sec, which was a little slower than average for the session, but still a satisfactory gallop. Nausori’s connections were not perturbed by his defeat. Even on home ground he can be beaten by maidens. Quite clearly, on race day he is a different proposition. STILL HARD The track is still hard. Most galloping took place on the outside of the course proper and times were* good. Bright Chief (Landers) beat Tamarangi (Hughes) by two lengths over a mile and a quarter, the last mile in Imin 44 3-ssec and three furlongs in 37sec. Arnie (Cullen) ran a most attractive solo mile in Imin 41 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 36sec. It was the morning’s fastest mile and in the style typical of W. Sanders’s horses she seemed hardly to turn a hair. Fairfleet (Leggett), another first leg contender, finished a length and a half ahead of Amies stablemate, Ironbark (Cullen), after galloping a mile and a quarter. They took Imin 42sec for the last mile and 87 2-ssec for the final three furlongs. Fairfleet was doing the better at the finish, but Ironbark pulled hard in the early part. Ben Lomond (Hughes) and his stablemate, Sir John (Andrews), were together and travelling within themselves after a mile in Imin 42 3-ssec, the last half in 50 4-ssec and three furlongs in 37 4-ssec. Aquarelle (Willetts) finished with Bywon (Peake) after running the last half-mdle of their work in 47 3-ssec and three furlongs in 34 4-ssec. Bywon broke away a length clear so Aquarelle did well to get to him, considering the speed of the trial. Pell Mell (Taylor) caused no surprise when he beat Empire King (Dowling) by two lengths over six furlongs, the last three in 37 2-ssec. Pell Mell led most of the way, but both horses went well enough. The stablemates, Kathey’s Son

(Peake) and Talavera (Willetts), ran half a mile. Kathey’s Son is not a good track worker and Talavera beat him by five lengths in 50 4-ssec, the last three furlongs taking 37 3-ssec. Domodossola (J. F. Harris) ran a mile, the last three furlongs in 36 2-ssec. Harris will ride him in the W.R.C. Handicap. Jen Hai (Hughes) was beaten half a length by Summer Dale (Riordan) at the end of a mile in Imin 44 l-ssec, the last half in 52sec and three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. HAS THRIVED Udare (Peake) ran the last half mile of hie work in 49 3-ssec and three furlongs in 35 l-ssec, proving that he has done well since winning on Monday. Big Push (Riordan) and Le Danois (Landers) took 34 2-ssec for the last three furlongs of their work. Barellan (Cullen) ran half a mile in 50sec. Billy Joe (Marsh) beat Tipperary Tom (Harris) by a neck over half a mile in a very smart 47sec, the last three furlongs in 35 3-ssec. Bardowie (Taylor) worked over a mile, the last half in 49sec and three furlongs in 35sec, which was outstanding for a stayer. Even One (Chitty) finished with the two-year-old, Shantung (Riordan), after a mile tn 49 4-ssec. Even One led in the middle stages, but Shantung ran up to her in the straight and both were hard held. Palisade (Dowling) worked strongly on the plough. He ran the last half mile of his work in 54sec. Honour Me (Chitty) took 49 l-ssec for half a mile, the last three furlongs in 36 3-ssec.
