PECULIAR TO THE TIMES

(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, Jan. 25. The theft of copper was an offence peculiar to the times, Mr M. D. Hill, counsel, said in the Blenheim Magistrate’s Court when Albert Stephen William Fenton, aged 32, an engineer’s labourer, appeared for sentence for the theft of 20931 b of copper wire valued at $1307.94 from the Marlborough Power Board. Fenton was out of work and had got into debt, Mr Hill said. Mr D. J. Sullivan, S.M., sentenced Fenton to 18 months imprisonment. Fenton, who admitted the theft, told the police that he knew he would be caught because “it was too easy.”
