SYDNEY B.H.P. rose 80c to 1755 c today, and Howard Smith, a substantial shareholder in 8.H.P., gained 20c to 365 c. Metals Exploration fully paid shares and contributing shares lost 135 c to close at 355 c. Great Boulder Gold Mines rights fell 20c to 410 c. B.H.P. took the spotlight to day when it jumped to a new record of 1790 after the company’s report that Kingfish field in Bass Strait is “potentially a major oil find.” Closing sale was 1760, up 85c. Philip Morris; with a further gain of 54 to 536—a rise of 100 c this week—was the only other notable move. Industrials generally fluctuated narrowly with moves about even. A fall of 150 to 340 for Metals Exploration after its report on nickel content at Greenvale deposit, highlighted the irregular minings section in which most nickel shares eased Western Mining dropped 80 to 3970.
