SHE SAYS ...

A resolution for we women motorists to make this year could be to increase our knowledge of the car we drive, and the way we drive it. The notion that women drivers are ignorant and incompetent was “knocked on

the head" long ago but what do you know of the grades of oil that should be put in the car you drive, or of the pressures there should be in its tyres? If facts like these are not known, the results on the engine can be costly, and the vehicle’s performance and even its safety can suffer. Ignorance here is definitely not bliss.

Perhaps the last of your young family is beginning school this year, and you are wondering about the time you are going to have to yourself. If you have a real interest in driving, why not discover more about the mechanics of the car you drive? You can do this by reading some of the many books on cars and motoring, and also by doing something every driver should do—by reading the car-maker’s handbook.

And why not make an effort to improve your own driving ability as well? This takes time, concentration and practice, and some could even reap -considerable benefit by taking two or three “brush-ing-up” lessons with a reputable driving school. There is great satisfaction in knowing that, for example, you have just taken a bend in the road easily and smoothly, even though there is no passenger beside you to tell you this. You should also be aware of your own driving faults, and try to correct them. We all have them, for bad driving habits can easily creep in unnoticed.
