First ‘Open’ Entries

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. The leading professionals, R. Laver, K. Rosewall, P. Gonzales, and A. Gimeno, will play in the first British open tennis tournament. They have entered the British hard-court championships in Bournemouth starting on April 22—the date Britain goes “open” and faces suspension by the International Lawn Tennis Federation. The British Lawn Tennis Association said that prize money for the championsnip would amount to £5490. Last week it was announced that prizes at the first open Wimbledon this year would top £26,000. At both tournaments competitors will have the right to state on their entry forms whether they are playing for prize money or expenses only. They cannot do both.

Hockey Lead.—Pakistan maintained its position on top of the league table with a 2-0 win over Malaysia in the pre-Olym-pic hockey tournament at Lahore yesterday. Pakistan is a point ahead of Kenya.
