AWARD OF MEDALS

The award of the A.N.Z.A.A.S. Medal, for services in the advancement of science in Australia and New Zealand, to Professor R. N. Robinson. professor of botany at the University of Adelaide, was announced at the opening of the congress. Professor Robinson, however, was not present to receive the medal.

The Mackie Medal, for contribution in education, philosophy and psychology was awarded to a New Zealander, Dr G. W. Parkyn, formerly of Christchurch, for his work as Director of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research.

Dr Parkyn, too, was absent. The Mueller Medal, for contribution to anthropological botanical, zoological and geological science, was awarded to a well-known New Zealand soil scientist, Dr N. H. Taylor.
